Also known as:
Trident - Work Experience Skills for Life - Work Experience Entended Work Experience
Overview
An unpaid opportunity for students to experience working life while they are still at school. Work Experience, as part of Trident Skills for Life, is carefully planned, monitored and evaluated. Good placements take account of student's choices as well as an assessment of what is desirable for each student.
Who can participate?
Work Experience usually takes place in Year 10 although in some schools it may be Year 11. Work Experience placements are permitted by law only for students at KS4 and above.
What are the benefits?
There are 5 main curriculum areas to which Work Experience can be linked. The school will decide which linkages fulfil the needs of its students, bearing in mind the views of students, teachers, employers and parents: - develops your students' employability and Key Skills - provides opportunities for careers education and guidance - links with vocational courses and with the new Specialised Diplomas - develops personal and social skills - contributes to National Curriculum and other subjects
Tamar EBP/Trident provide a service for the co-ordination and provision of structured work experience placements to all secondary schools across the city on behalf of the Local Authority (LA), working with in excess of 4000 students annually. The aim is to meet the needs of local employers, schools/colleges, students, the Local Authority, and the Health and Safety Executive, in a coherent and centralised way.
As with all services there must be good pratice to ensure that we can continue to improve any weak areas to prevent the possibility of any accidents or incidents occurring. We strive to update the schools/colleges on changing guidelines by the DfES and the HSE relating to work experience on an annual basis. We improve existing procedures and tighten up those areas on behalf of schools, employers and students to ensure work experience continues in the spirit in which it should, but to also give assurance to schools and employers that we are looking after everyone’s interests.
