Whatever job young people do, for example, doctor, engineer, shop assistant, plasterer, office worker, accountant, they will use certain key skills every day, such as:
- Maths/Application of Number
- Communication
- IT/ICT
- Working with Others
- Problem Solving
- Managing your Own Learning
Functional skills are also now included in the new Specialised Diplomas
As well as these skills, employers will also be looking for a person's specialised skills, which they may have developed through school, college, training, university and work.
The great thing about learning new skills is that they stay with you for life and you can take them with you wherever you go. By using our skills as often as possible, we maintain our level of performance and improve.
Tamar EBP can help teachers with activities that help to develop young people's skills and abilities and by engaging employer involvement, young people can appreciate how much these skills are valued at work.
