Background
‘Creating an Enterprise Culture’ HM Treasury discussion paper, January 2004.
The Government can play a role in providing opportunities for people to experience enterprise at key points in their lives. From September 2005, all pupils will be able to have at least five days of enterprise activity before they leave school. Increases in the number of volunteers from businesses will be needed to ensure pupils benefit from realistic role models.
The Government is also supporting a major national campaign by Enterprise Insight to create a significant shift in the enterprise culture of the UK, including National Enterprise Week each November.”
Davies report, 2002
"Enterprise Education involves the development of the ability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, to create and implement new ideas and ways of doing things, to make reasonable risk/reward assessments and act upon them in one’s personal and working life."
National Strategy for Enterprise Education (DfES, 2005)
This entitlement will provide all KS4 pupils with the equivalent of five days’ activity focused on Enterprise Capability - innovation, creativity, risk-management, and a ‘can-do’ attitude and the drive to make ideas happen.
Enterprise Capability is supported by:
Financial Capability – the ability to manage one’s own finances and to become questioning and informed consumers of financial services.
Business and Economic Understanding – the ability to understand the business context and make informed choices between alternative uses of scarce resources.
