Work Related Learning/Education Business Activities - Quality Standards Framework - IiWREL

The Quality Standards Framework for Work-Related & Enterprise Learning showcases and highlights good practice within schools and colleges. As a developmental award it involves school WRL co-ordinators carrying out an audit of WRL and enterprise activities and procedures within their school.  They work closely with Tamar EBP to develop a portfolio of supporting evidence.

Support is given by Tamar EBP by way of:

• A ‘Meet the Assessors’ day at the beginning of the school year to gain an understanding of the whole process and to meet and share ideas with other schools who are committing to the award for the forthcoming year
• Ongoing support and advice is given to school co-ordinators throughout the process to enable them to understand what is required of them.
• Assisting co-ordinators to identify the order of events so that a self assessment pro-forma and portfolio of evidence can be produced

The process involves:

• An annual audit carried out by all departments within the school/college
• A formal action plan to be produced to set out the developments required and to identify the support and resources needed
• A final assessment carried out by experienced, external business people on a three yearly basis. This involves a half day visit to the school in March/April (after submission of the self assessment pro-forma and portfolio of evidence) so that the Assessor can meet with the Head, staff, students, community and business partners.

A celebration event for successful schools is held at a prestigious location where schools have the opportunity to showcase their achievements and to network with the many business partners who attend from across Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth. Their successes are recognised with an award ceremony. Every year a different inspirational speaker is invited to pass on their experiences and how being focused and enterprising has had an impact on their lives.

The eight stages of the framework are:
• Management and Leadership
• Planning
• Professional Development
• Support Framework
• Audit, Evaluation and Progression
• Impact on the School Community
• Impact on the External Community
• Learning Outcomes
