CITB Construction-Skills Event

Professional Development Day for Teachers, Wednesday 4th October 2006

Teachers from Estover, Heles, John Kitto and Ridgeway Schools in Plymouth participated in this event, which set out to compare the design and development of ‘luxury’ waterfront apartments with local, social housing.

The event, organised by Tamar EBP, was supported by CITB Construction-Skills, and was hosted jointly by Devington Homes,  (Azure development on Plymouth Hoe), Charles Church (Eau2 development at Sutton Harbour) and Leadbitter Construction (affordable housing in Devonport).

Through a series of visits to these development sites - viewing show apartments, investigating ‘hard hat’ areas and meeting site construction staff - the teachers were given a unique insight into the processes involved in designing, developing and constructing waterfront properties in Plymouth and Devonport. 

The day enabled the teachers to explore construction curriculum links further and in doing so,  utilise the knowledge gained to enhance their future curriculum planning and development in school.
