Frequently Asked Questions

Will students receive any payment?
No. Work Experience is an unpaid opportunity for young people to experience working life while they are still at school.

Isn't it a waste of time when my students want to pursue Higher Education Options?
Even if a student is attending a placement that is not related to their career plans, Work Experience will still broaden their understanding of work in general. It is not intended as training for a particular job

Is it possible for students to do their placements out of the county?
Yes. Work Experience away from home requires parents to do a great deal of the arrangement and all of the monitoring. Employer Health & Safety checks can be arranged in the rest of Devon and Cornwall. Health & Safety checks for placements beyond are the responsibility of the parent. You would not be expected to visit your student whilst they are on their placement.

What are the insurance arrangements?
Every placement provider has Public and Employer Liability Insurance cover, this is required as part of the Tamar EBP/Trident Health & Safety check.

What about lunch and transport costs?
It is important for school, parents, students and employers to know beforehand exactly what arrangement shave been made. Ordinarily it is the responsibility of the parent. Schools retain the discretion to provide a subsidy where they consider it appropriate
